Get Your Move On: Healthy Connections For A Heathy Life
The Hub For Beyond 21 Foundation (Beyond 21) is proud to present a new fitness program for community seniors, Get Your Move On: Healthy Connections For A Healthy Life. This program will offer a variety of fitness activities including:
- Tai Chi
- Zumba Gold (for Seniors)
These activities will be offered to community based seniors, and aging adults with developmental disabilities, creating a shared experience which is the foundation of making strong connections with one’s peers. Each fitness session will be followed by brief social time, with light post-fitness refreshments offered, to provide further opportunity for conversation and friendships to grow. The goal of this fitness program is to create opportunities for group mentoring by seniors, for older adults with developmental disabilities. We hope to provide seniors in our community with the chance to get to know adults who have a developmental disability, learn who they are, what their hopes and dreams might be and perhaps grow new friendships that will move outside of the fitness room.
This program has been funded through the New Horizon’s For Seniors Program and will be offered free to all area seniors, on site at The Hub For Beyond 21 Foundation at 800 Twelfth Street East, Cornwall ON, in the lower level of Knox-St.Paul’s United Church. This location is fully accessible, and taxi and bus vouchers may be applied for in order to assist seniors living with a low income, for whom travel costs are a concern.
The schedule of activities will be as follow, with a break for the summer travel and event season:
Session 1: May 23 – June 27, 2019
Zumba Gold – 6 WEEKS, Wednesdays at 10:30 am
Tai Chi – 6 WEEKS, Tuesdays at 1:00 PM
Yoga – 6 WEEKS, Thursdays at 1:00 PM
Registrations for Get Your Move On can be made through Beyond 21, by phone at 613-935-3121 or email: email@example.com. Drop-ins are also welcome.
At Beyond 21 we partner with adults with a developmental disability to learn their dreams. We help them acquire the skills they need to achieve them. Friendship and a sense of belonging are vital to the mental and emotional wellness of seniors and adults with developmental disabilities in our community. As they age, programs like Get Your Move On will connect our participants with their senior peers in the community in a fun atmosphere where everyone has a chance to learn about each other’s differences and similarities.
