Plenty Of Local Ties To OHL Exhibition Game In Cornwall This September

Don’t get too excited…the Royals aren’t coming back just yet.

The Kingston Frontenacs will take on the Ottawa 67’s in an exhibition match at the Cornwall Civic Complex September 3rd, which is Labour Day Monday at 2pm.

Former Royals star Doug Gilmour will likely be in town for the game since he is the President of Hockey Ops for the Fronts. However, there has been no confirmation yet regarding his attendance. Cornwall native, NHL alumnist and current city firefighter, Chad Kilger also played for the Fronts during his OHL career in the 93-94 and 94-95 seasons. You can see there are many local connections. Another Cornwallite, Scott Pearson, played in Kingston back when they were called the Canadians from 1985-1988. Steve Seguin also suited up for Kingston from 1980 to 1983. Andre Payette played the 96-97 season in the stone city.

When it comes to the Ottawa 67’s, Cornwall native Derek Grant played one season there in 1994-1995. Kyle McCallister was there for two seasons in 1997 to 1999. Miguel Delisle played 5 seasons there from 98 to 2003. He also suited up for the Fronts in 29 games during the 03 season. Jonah Leroux, son of former fire chief Vic Leroux, suited up for Ottawa during the 2001-2002 and 02-03 campaigns.

You can see many Cornwall players have history with both teams coming in September. Tickets sales will be announced in the near future.
