As members of the Transition Cornwall + food action group, the Carriere’s enjoy sharing their knowledge of food gardening and opening their extensive gardens and greenhouse to the public for educational purposes. They have been developing the self-sufficiency of their homestead for many years, and now grow a wide range of vegetables, berries, and fruit and nut trees.
Vegetable plants include dozens of tomato varieties of different colours and sizes. Berries grown include raspberries, gooseberries, strawberries, blackberries, black currants, Nanking cherries and elderberries. The fruit and nut trees include novelties such as pawpaws, hardy pecans and pine nuts.
Bill and Karen Carriere and Anke Craig, another TC+ Food Action Group member, will be presenting several talks on this Country Homestead Visit day. The Carriere homestead is located 10 km north of Ingleside. Picnics are welcome.
