What is Period Promise?
Period Promise is a United Way campaign with national reach and a local impact to end period poverty by ensuring that Canadians who menstruate have access to menstrual hygiene products when they need it.
In 2023, research conducted by Plan International Canada found that 25% of women in Canada who menstruate had to choose between buying menstrual products and paying for other essentials like food and rent. 20% said they weren’t sure if they could afford these products in the next 12 months.
Monthly menstruation products are a necessity. Too many people living in our communities are having to choose between these essential health products and other essentials. United Way’s Period Promise initiative aims to address period poverty in our communities while challenging the stigma around menstruation. No one should have to choose between food, utilities, rent or menstrual products.
Last year, we ran our fourth menstrual product drive in this region, and this community blew us away by showing up to support. We received an impressive 1300+ product donations and $2000 in cash. Donated products were distributed to 19 organizations across Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry, Cornwall, and Akwesasne.

What to donate
We are collecting a variety of menstrual hygiene products that are single-use and re-usable to distribute to local organizations. And based on local need, we are also collecting incontinence products for seniors. We will take open packages as long as the products inside are sealed for the safety of those who will be receiving them.
